Ecological Concerns Incorporated (ECI) is a habitat restoration firm, ecological landscape contractor, biological consulting firm, and California native plant nursery established in 1992 in Santa Cruz, California. ECI specializes in the design and implementation of habitat restoration projects with a focus on vegetation management for rare and endangered species and habitats.

We have broad experience in biological site assessment, botanical surveys, invasive plant inventories and site specific planting plans. Our in depth experience in environmental horticulture and collaboration with architects, engineers and environmental project planners help us to develop native plant recommendations for habitat restoration.

ECI has completed hundreds of projects throughout the greater San Francisco and Monterey Bay Areas. We have experience in all of the ecosystems on California’s Central Coast, including: coastal & upland prairie, maritime chaparral, coastal scrub, mixed evergreen and redwood forest, Santa Cruz sandhills, dune, wetland and riparian habitats.

Our mission is to nurture ecological relationships, cultivate community partnerships and build sustainable business practices in order to protect and restore biological diversity.

History: In 1992, after receiving degrees in Biology and Environmental Studies from UC Santa Cruz and working for five years in the organic agriculture industry, Josh Fodor started one of the first organic native plant nurseries in California. Central Coast Wilds grew from a small operation selling plants out of a Westside garage into a large nursery and associated environmental services company. In addition to growing and supplying a broad selection of native plants to wholesale and retail customers, CCW offers specialized botanical skills in plant propagation and for habitat assessment and restoration. Seeing a need for a broader range of offerings, CEO Josh Fodor expanded the company by creating Ecological Concerns Incorporated. This arm of the business offers consulting, design, restoration, maintenance, and installation services to clients throughout California. Together, CCW and ECI employees have a wealth of expertise and years of experience. ECI has grown into a successful Santa Cruz business with a large portfolio of habitat restoration projects throughout the Monterey and greater San Francisco Bay Areas.
